breaking ground

Welcome to the first entry of my design blog series:

saplings”, where my planted ideas start small and grow into something bigger and better.

Some of these saplings (or design projects) will be existing projects I want to expand upon while other saplings will be projects I want to initiate and record the work-in-progress before posting the finalised version under the Project’s page.

After successfully graduating in a masters degree at the Product Design programme in OsloMet, the little saplings blog entries will act as a replacement for the benchmarks, presentations, and final reports. These entries will be in less of an academic tone and more of a personal tone. By doing this, I’m hoping readers will be able to understand my personal investment and perspective for such projects. However, academic journals will still be referenced for a lot of projects, because I value the importance of the research process. Plus they’re fun facts to learn, and I believe they are worth sharing!

This series will also be featured on the social media platform Instagram under @julianne_design as an incentive for myself to provide exposure for the projects for any valuable criticism that can be used in future plans, yet the portfolio website will be prioritised over the social media account.

As a fun celebratory exercise for my first little saplings entry, the images featured on this post are assorted plant saplings modelled in CAD, digital sketch, and traditional sketch two ways. It was a fun way to “sprout” out of this new broken ground for my soon-to-be design garden. So I hope you all are just as excited as me to see my designs and I look forward to the fantastic feedback!
