Brand design for an Oakland, California-based publishing company.

Last Gen Publishing, LLC (abbreviated as LGP) is a publishing company dedicated to producing and distributing literary works created by diverse communities underrepresented in American media and literary works.

The publishing company strives to be the “last generation” (as the name implies) that collectively strengthens itself to uphold a better future for the next generations to come; hence, Last Gen.

The designs were featured and printed on the back of Last Gen Publishing’s works "Make Yourself at Home" by Janae Royston [link], “Men of The State” by B. A Liberatore [link], and “The Delicious Dilemma” by Mae-Domenica Barrett [link]. Displayed here are some examples of both the 3D logo and the now current flat logo which was chosen in the end for printability and readability.

3D Concept Mock-ups

With the literary theme in mind, the object of book stands came to mind during concept iterations. A book stand holds up the weight of many books, creates room on a bookshelf, and the L shape is an ideal form to hold up against books and the like.

In the same sense, Last Gen Publishing’s mission aims to do the same action, except instead of holding up the weight of books, they are holding up a better place for next generations to stand upon.
